Awards and Recognition

Clarence W. Gosnell was a pioneer and leader in the Washington area building development and real estate community. In January 1948, he was elected as the President of the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Washington, an organization he had been active in for some time as described in The Evening Standard article published on January 8th. Here is a list of additional awards and recognitions that he or his firm received:

  • 1944-1950, 1951-1957 Director of Washington’s Board of Trade and was selected as Man of the Year in 1949

  • 1948 Elected President of the Home Builders Association of Washington

  • 1954 Selected to build the Better Home & Garden’s Home for America in Marlan Park on the corner of Quander Road and Fort Hunt Road

  • 1956 Selected to build the Better Homes &Garden’s Idea home in Westgrove on Middlebury Drive

  • 1956 Winner of the Minneapolis-Honeywell ‘Acapulco Derby’

  • 1956 Northern Virginia Builders Association’s Home Award Contest

    • Westgrove selected as the Best Subdivision

    • The Tulsa model received the 1st award for the Best Individual Home

  • 1957 Northern Virginia Builders Association’s Home Award Contest

    • Westgrove selected as the 2 nd Best Subdivision

    • The Swarthmore model won the award for Excellence in an Individual Home category

The Gosnell firm was cited in the Practical Builder and House and Homes magazine, as well as being featured
in the National Home Builder’s association magazine “Correlator.”
